What is my schedule and how much do I teach?

TutorABC operates 7 days a week from 10:30AM - 11:15 PM (GMT+8) during the week and from 1:30PM - 10:15PM (GMT+8) on weekends. Therefore, we are able to offer various schedules that are flexible and personalized to our teachers¡¦ needs.

Teachers are required to teach a minimum of 15 classes per week (45 min/class). Teachers can select teaching times to fit their own schedules.

Here is the schedule of our peak teaching times (checked boxes). The unchecked boxes are less busy, but occasionally available. The pink boxes indicate no classes available. Convert to your time zone to find out when you will be teaching.

What will I be teaching in a session?

Lesson plans are supplied through TutorABC's learning system. Teachers are automatically provided with appropriate lesson plans for each class, based on the students' ability level and individual backgrounds.

Our material has been designed to discuss various topics, ranging from business English to specific topics to everyday conversations. They provide our students with the opportunity to learn new vocabulary and expressions while practicing their listening and speaking skills.

All of our lessons contain the necessary language foci and goals appropriate for our student's ability and development. As a result, our materials provide our students with a well-rounded learning experience.

What teaching styles are promoted at TutorABC?

The sessions we offer our students are conversation-based. Therefore, teachers are required to create a friendly and open environment which all students can be participate equally. It is important to understand that we do not promote lecture style learning. On the contrary, we expect our teachers to foster interaction between students. Teacher-talk-time should always be at a minimum and focused towards setting up an activity or exercise, in addition to offering appropriate feedback which follow the aims of any particular lesson.

If you are accepted into our training program you will have the opportunity to observe some of our top-rated sessions from our experienced teachers. Peer-observation as well as self-observations are methods we employ to better prepare new and old teachers of TutorABC.

What do I need to be able to teach on-line?

Technical quality is as important as teaching quality. At TutorABC, we want to maximize the learning experience of our customers. To see and hear you clearly is of utmost importance.

Technical Requirements:
Pentium, 1GHZ or faster computer
Windows XP, 2000, Me, 98 (Sorry, no Apples/Macs at this time)
512mb or more RAM
DSL, Cable or Fiber Optic Internet Connection
(minimum of 512kps upload ¡V check with your service provider)
High Quality Webcam (recommend: Creative, Logitech)

While online, every session must be treated as if you're going to a regular office. Therefore audio and visual distraction must not interfere with the quality of the session.

No telephones, televisions, radios, loud fans, loud people (children, annoying significant others), cars on the street, or Spot (yes he's a cute Labrador).

Also, your background must be a plain white background. Usually teachers will arrange their desks so their backs are facing plain walls (no doors, pictures, NADA!). Or, some teachers will put up a white curtain or sheet. This is very IMPORTANT.

Again, background and distractions must be appropriately controlled.

Teacher Requirements:
Complete mastery of the English language
Four-year University or College Degree
Energetic personality
Ability to SPEAK SLOWLY and explain things to people who can't speak

How much am I paid?

Consultants are paid a base rate for each class attended and taught. Base rates are determined by experience and other qualifications. Additionally, there is the opportunity to earn bonuses based upon both the number of students in a class and the ratings awarded consultants in the students' class feedback.

A summary of all the sessions you've taught and the ratings you received are accessible from our on-line system to see your total monthly pay. For monthly teacher payments, we use PayPal as well as bank wire transfers depending on the individual and country. This system will be explained and discussed further with successful applicants.
